James Seim officiating for Nancy Baldwin, Founder and Artistic Director of Valley Theatre Company, who died on May 29 after prolonged illnesses. Friends may call at the Funeral Home half an hour before the service.

Kessler Funeral Home 304 S. Commercial Street Neenah 722-6464 Joseph P. Barta Appleton Died at home after a valiant battle with cancer on Tuesday, 21, 1999. He was born July 29, 1919, in Appleton, son of the late John and Katherine (Plesser) Barta. On September 13, 1951, in Little Chute he was united in marriage to the former Dolores A.

Wildenberg. He served country for three years in the U.S. Army during World War II. his, Joe was employed by the U.S. Post Office for 32 years as a mail carrier.

He was an avid golfer, loved gardening, walking and traveling to spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dolores Barta, Appleton; his daughters and sons Ann (Robert) Chessen, Littleton, Colorado; Nancy (Tim) Davis, Arlington, Virginia; Kathleen Barta and Bryan Jacques, Milwaukee, and Sheila (William) Fleet, La Quinta, California; his son, Michael Barta, Palm Desert, California. Joe is also survived by seven grandchildren. Joe was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, July 24, 1999, at 11 a.m. at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence Appleton, with Father David Belongea officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m.

until the time of Mass. Joe's body was donated to the University of Wisconsin Medical School. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit LEAVEN, United Health Hospice and St. Joseph Food Pantry where Joe volunteered his time. Joe's family would like to say a special thank-you to Diane, Colleen and Kathy from Hospice for their loving care shown to Joe over the duration of his illness.

WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME 537 N. Superior St. Appleton 739-1231 Harold "Ike" Close N3836 East Street New London Age 79, was called home by Jesus, peacefully at his residence, in the presence of his family on Wednesday, July 21, 1999. He was born on September 5, 1919, in the Township of Lebanon, (Waupaca County), son of the late Henry and Bertha (Kostrzak) Close. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member.

On June 7, 1945, he was united in marriage with N. June Popke at Emanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Walter Pankow. He attended New London schools and worked at Hockers Brick Company until entering the Army in 1941. He served years and was trained in Fort Bliss and Camp Wallace, Texas, with the Anti Aircraft Gunnery Division.

He served in Bermuda and France and Germany and saw extensive duty in the European Theatre where he fought and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge with the 60th Infantry Division. He was hospitalized in Belgium. He was a member of the D.A.V. and was an avid bowler, hunter, and fisherman. Ike was well known in the New London area as he had worked in building construction for many years.

He is survived by his June; three sons, Jay (Mary) "Close, New London; Dr. Jan (Patricia) Close, Potsdam, New York; Todd Close and 1 special friend Barbara Jeffers, New London; six grandchildren, Jennie Close and special friend Doug Blohm, Menasha; Joseph (Rhonda) Close, New London; Jayme Close, London; Sarah Close, Canton, New York; Joshua Close, Saratoga Springs, New York; Rachel Close, Potsdam, New York; a brother, Kenneth Sr. (Mary) Close, Appleton; two sisters, Genevieve Orris, Bainbridge Island, Washington; Betty (Earl) Mundt, Coos Bay, Oregon. Also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ray, Henry Jr.

and Martin, and special uncle Charlie Kostrzak. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 1999, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London, with the Rev. Steven Witte officiating. Interment will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery in New London.

Friends may call at the Emanuel Lutheran Church Narthex on Friday from 49 p.m. where a 7:30 p.m. D.A.V. Service will be held, and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Karen Gremminger, Dr. Marion Scholtz and all of the staff at Affinity Hospice of Appleton. Mrs. Joseph Geenen (Clara M. Coffey) Freedom Age 93, formerly of 4133 County passed away Tuesday July 20, 1999, at Rennes Health Center in Appleton.

She was born April 15, 1906, in Freedom, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Vande Hey) Coffey and had resided in the Freedom area all of her life. Clara was united in marriage to Joseph Geenen on July 13, 1926, sharing 64 years together before his death on March 24, 1991. Clara was actively involved with her husband in operating the Geenen Shopping Center and Geenen Explosives. She had a deep concern for others and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Clara was a member of St.

Nicholas Catholic Church of Freedom and the Christian Mothers Society. Survivors, include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Therese and Michael Maulick, Freedom; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joseph and Nancy Geenen, Chenequa, Wisconsin; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ben Verhagen, Kaukauna; five sisters-inlaw, Marion Murphy, Freedom; Agnes Peters, Omro; Exilda ValenFreedom; Jean Coffey, West Virginia; and Marie Coffey, Appleton; 11 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; grandchildren. In and two addition great to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Aulozzi; two sisters, Lillian Wieber and Mae Vanden Heuvel; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, John (Mabel), Herman (Marie), Dr. Sylvester (Harriet), Dr.

Francis, Leo (Helen) and Art Coffey; brothers-in-law, Alex Vanden Heuvel, Charles Wieber, Ray Murphy, Frank Peters, Lee Valentine, Gerald Geenen Sr. and Ray Geenen. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24th at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom, with Dennis Ryan officiating and Fr.

Roy Geenen and Fr. Leander Nickel cocelebrating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Friday and then directly at the church from 9 a.m.

Saturday until the time of service. The parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday. A memorial fund has been established. Appleton, WI 920-733-7383 Virginia M. Greene Appleton Age 81, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 20, 1999. She was born in Appleton on October 28, 1917, to the late Walter and Veronica (Seibold) Sigl. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Third Order of St.

Francis. Virginia was a telephone operator for 30 years, until the time of her retirement. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was the loving mother of Walter D. Greene, Appleton; Joan (Thomas) Ratajczyk, Milwaukee; Rosemary (Don) Sawchuk, Canton, Michigan; Mary Greene, Appleton; sisters, Rosemary Mullen and Joan (John) Hurley, both of Appleton; seven grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Sigl. The Memorial Service will be on Saturday, July 31, 1999, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence, with Father David Belongea, Capuchin, officiating.

The visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are appreciated. Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St.

733-5435 as would be Gilbert H. "Duke" Hoelzel 418 Military Road (Stockbridge) Hilbert Age 78, died on Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born on November 25, 1920, in Stockbridge, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Giesen) Hoelzel. Gib married Beatrice Head on November 26, 1949, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.

He was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company in Kaukauna for 35 years until retiring in 1979. He also farmed in the Town of Stockbridge his entire life. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, the Association of the Miraculous Medal and the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company Quarter Century Club. Gib was a lover of life and the great outdoors, enjoying his farm, gardening, sheepshead, watching auto racing, football and sturgeon fishing.

He held his granddaughter, Kelsey Rose, most dear. Those who shared in his life were blessed by his love and his enthusiasm for life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. He is survived by his by his wife, Beatrice; a daughter, Jane Ann (Jeff) Warren, North Prairie; a granddaughter, Kelsey Rose; a sister, Rosemary (Gilbert) Ortlieb, Stockbridge; four brothers, Reuben (Betty) Hoelzel, Menasha; Alvin (Eleanor) Hoelzel, Boulder Junction; Edward (Julie) Hoelzel, Neenah; and Francis (Cele) Hoelzel, Kaukauna; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and friends; also two special friends, Rich Thiel and Donald McLernon. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice (Ned) Colovich; and a brother, Arthur Hoelzel.

Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 1999, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Leander Nickel officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 3:30 p.m. until the hour of service. A memorial fund has been established in Gib's name. Lucille "Lou" Jacobchick E8619 State Road 54 New London Formerly of Milwaukee and Winneconne, age 70, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family at her side on Wednesday, July 21, 1999. She was born June 27, 1929 in Milwaukee; daughter of the late Ernst and May (Bruss) Vosz. On July 9, 1949 she married Matthew Jacobchick in Milwaukee. She was a member of the Winnebago Itasca Travelers Motor Home Club and also the Wana-B Motor Home Club.

She was a former member of the Winneconne Women's Civic League. She is survived by her husband, Matthew Jacobchick; two sons: Kenneth (Denean) Jacobchick, New London; Robert (Wava) Jacobchick, Blair; a brother, Al (Barb) Vosz, Brown Deer; a sister, Delores Mylly, Santa a Barbara, California; two uncles: Curtis Vosz, Milwaukee; Carl Sueflow, Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren: Karley, Kelly, Matthew, Peter and Joey Jacobchick. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 24, 1999 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in the Town of Lebanon with Rev.

Msgr. Dennis Lally officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Leona Tremmel Formerly of 397 Pine Menasha, age 92, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah. She was born September 11, 1906, in Wausau, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Paul and Adeline (Gresens) Erdmann. Leona was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha. She is survived by her children, George R.

(Rosemary) Tremmel, Urbandale, Iowa, and Patricia Peterson, Soquel, California; a daughterin-law, Betty Tremmel, Appleton; a sister, Pearl (Charles) Harrer, Appleton; 12 grandchildren and 17 great -grandchildren. Leona was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Tremmel Sr. in 1948; a son, Louis J. Tremmel Jr.

in 1997; a daughter, Elaine Tremmel, in 1927, and a sister, Lydia Schanke, in 1942. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, August 1, 1999, at Laemmrich Community Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Ninmer officiating. Inurnment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Neenah.

A lunch and social will be at the funeral home following the services. Memorials may be directed toward Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha. Call IT'S YOUR CALLA 734-5678 Cause of $1 million fire in Grand Chute ruled accidental The Post-Crescent GRAND CHUTE A fire that caused more than $1 million in damage to a truck repair shop Monday evening will be ruled accidental. Fire Chief Mark Heling said investigators have determined the blaze at Quality Truck Care Center, 2150 W.

Nordale Drive, began when heat from a torch spread from a truck frame into the truck, which was filled with furniture. He said the department would make the official ruling later today. "The cutting torch was outside the trailer but the heat was transmitted into the trailer," he said. "It was part of the operation." Two employees and a Grand Chute firefighter were hospitalized briefly for treatment of smoke inhalation. The northern half of the 200- foot long building collapsed after intense heat formed, in part from the burning furniture and melted steel -beams supporting the ceiling.

Three other semi-trailers in the building were also destroyed in the blaze, and three trucks outside the building were destroyed by heat and flames. Officials said the loss to the building and vehicles could reach $1.2 million. Plateglass window broken in fight Three men suffered cuts after a man who was asked to leave a downtown Appleton tavern late Wednesday fought with bouncers. Appleton police said the man, who was not immediately identified, was being escorted from Park Central by two employees just before 11 p.m. When got to the sidewalk area, he started to fight with them, and the Memorial set up for The union representing iron workers in eastern Wisconsin and northern Michigan has started a trust fund for the families of the three men killed in the Miller Park accident in Milwaukee last week.

Brent Emons, business manager for Iron Workers Local No. 8, which is based in Milwaukee and has offices in Appleton and Marquette, said the trust fund will be used to assist the families of scuffle that ensued ended with the man and both bouncers going through the plate glass window at Subway, 318 W. College Ave. Preliminary reports said the men were treated at the scene by paramedics, and police said the man being escorted from the night club will be referred to the district attorney's office for prosecution on assault charges. Miller Park victims William DeGrave, 39 of Kimberly, Jeff Wischer, 40 of Waukesha and Jerome Starr, 52 of Milwaukee.

DeGrave is survived by his wife, Majorie, their two children, Maggie, 2 and James, 3, and Miranda, a teen-aged daughter from a previous marriage. "Welcome Back Pastor Jonts" Co Groundbreaking Ceremony for Our New Sanctuary Sunday, July 25 10:00 AM March 23rd, Rev. Jack Vonts 11 was admitted to Theda Clark Hospital and rapidly declined with a diagnosis of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. On April 2nd, Good Friday (or "Bad Friday" as our church has come to recognize it), his wife was told that he would not make it through the day, but prayer prevailed and God saved our Pastor! Though better than before, he was still listed as critical and the prayers kept going up. On May 18th, he was transferred to Madison University Hospital for a possible lung transplant but instead progressed miraculously and was finally taken off the ventilator on June 15th. Pastor Vonts was able to come home to be with his beautiful new daughter and his wife on their 13th wedding anniversary, Monday, June 28th.

A special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and therapists for their untiring efforts, and especially to everyone who called, sent cards, prayed and answers We are so thankful to have him back. We want to celebrate his return along with the ground breaking for our new sanctuary. Everyone is invited!
