The Post-Crescent, Appleton-Neenah-Menasha, Wis. C-5 Anonymous tip credited in helping police crack drive-by case The Post-Crescent APPLETON An anonymous caller to a tip line is being credited with helping police solve a drive-by shooting here in December. WeTip and Appleton police Lt. Greg Goodavish said a caller provided information that resulted in the arrests of Nhia Lee, 22, and Nhia Vang, 17, in the shooting in the 600 block of N. Story St.

Lee and Vang are jailed awaiting trials in the incident. Three shots were fired into a home, narrowly missing a man and his young daughter. WeTip, which is used by Appleton and Grand Chute police for their anonymous tips, gives anonymous callers a three-part code name and a six-digit case number during the initial tip. WeTip rewards are paid at secret drop points, using only case numbers and code names, and the service has paid out $819,268 in rewards to callers. WeTip has provided 418,305 tips to law enforcement since its start in 1972, and law enforcement agencies have notified the service of 14,756 arrests and 7,497 convictions from WeTip information.

Anonymous tips can be called in to WeTip at 800-78-CR1ME. Lines are staffed by bilingual operators and are open year-round.
