HISPERT CHILDS POLITICAL EXCITE- Voters Seem to Know Whom to Vote For. Menasha, like unto Neenah, shows but little political activity. The wire workers are leaving no trails but are putting in quiet work. All of the candidates, from mayor down and including that official, are individual nomina tions" as no "partisan'' tickets can be voted. The tickets for Menasha contain names of candidates as follows: For mayor A.

J. Koch and N. G. Re mm el. For justice of the peace George Stein.

For city assessors Frank Koro-tev and Joseph Jarvis. For aldermen First ward Wm. Hahn; Second ward M. Clough and Henry Shertin; Third ward- Herman Vetter; Fourth ward- John Jedwabney; "Fifth ward John Hyland and Peter Kraut-kramer. For supervisor First ward-G.

Land Then Worth $3 to $5 an Acre. The Appleton Crescent is pub lishing an interesting history of the origin and progress of Lawrence University, now Lawrence College. It appears that Mr.

Lawrence, who was to promote the college, did not like the conditions offered at Appleton, and several meetings were held to decide upon an acceptable location and conditions. Many inducements were offered but the main ones were at Grand Chute and Winnebago Rapids, (Neenah.) Loyal Jones of "Winnebago Bapids," proposed to give forty acres of land in the village plot (Neenah) and "water-power sufficient to r.un four runs of stone," on the condition that the institution should be located there. However, the favorite site of the men who were chosen to survey the land from Depere to Winnebago rapids, consisting of M. C. Darling, N.

P. Talmaage, H. S. L. M.

Martin, Wm. Samp son and Beeder Smith, was Grand Chute, the present locatation. On Sept. 7, 1847 these men, traveled the whole river-bank either on foot or horseback, and could no equal to the Chute. It seems to have been the wish of the pro moters of the institution to place the school at Appleton.

Reeder Smith, of Appleton, was the leading promoter, and to his efforts, more than to any other was Appleton indebted for the location of L. and which educational institution proved a great benefactor to that city. Robbed a Dental 01 lice. At Appleton on Wednesday noou Dr. W.

L. Conkey's dental office was robbed of about $25 in gold. The police visited the office and made the observation that the door had been opened with a pass key, which they later found in the outer apartment to the office of Dr. Frank. P.

Dohearty. at the rear of the building. The robbery at the Dr. Conkoy office would indicate that experienced sneak thieves are at work. Some Eggs.

Menasha Record: Mrs. A. Linde- mann, Third street, reports a record for her poultry which is rather difficult to pass. Mrs Lindemann reports that during the winter she gathered 460 eggs from 25 Plymouth Rock chickens, which are now only eight months old. If any one can show a better record she would like to see it.

City Water Users. If the weather permits the water mains will be flushed throughout the City during the present week; which will cause thte water to be roiled. When such is the case it is wasteful and useless to let the water run tryig. to get it clear. The object of flushing is to get the dead water out of the mains.

In about 2 hours the water will be clear again. J. P. Jasperson, Supt. W.

W. 75-4 Menasha Bank Notiee. The officers and directors of the Bank of Menasha cordially invite the public to visit and inspect the new building and banking quarters at 150 Main on Saturday, April 4th, 1914. After the regular banking hours the banking rooms will be open to inspection until 8 P. M.
