a a Were Married Saturday Steven William Behrend and his bride, the former Miss Christine Agnes Boucher, exchanged wedding promises Saturday in a 1 p.m. ceremony at St. Peter Catholic Church, They're Going To Have a Ball BY ELIZABETH JABER FOND DU LAC Tickets in the shape of milk bottles emphasize the charitable purpose behind the glamorous "Golden Christmas Ball" to be held Dec. 17 at the Retlaw Motor Inn ballroom. For the 57th consecutive year, the holiday ball is being sponsored by the Charity Club, the oldest organization in Fond du Lac.

Originally most of the money raised was used to provide milk for children in the schools. Today government subsidies satisfy the demands in that area and milk is supplied only in homes where it is needed. Instead, donations are made to the Salvation Army, Big Brothers, the Children's Home, Workshops, and Paquette House. An emergency fund is always available for "instant charity." "It's our big fund raising venture of the year, and we try to make it a beautiful memorable evening for people of this area," said Mrs. Ruth Behmer Kraut, a member of the group.

Mrs. L. N. Rueping, who has been a member of the group for over 50 years, remembered the early years when the ball was held in the Armory, "It was such a cold, cheerless place and we worked very hard to get a beautiful effect. One year we all brought floor lamps and one member brought a 9x12 rug for the stage.

We used flowers and ferns and made elaborate decorations. We danced until the orchestra played "Home, Sweet Home" at 2 a.m. Her daughter, Eloise Rueping Atkinson, recalled that her father sputtered every year about dressing in his full dress suit. "I was too young to go to the dance and longed for the time when I could. It was The New Mr.
